Waterside pictures

It has been some time since I posted but I thought I would blog three of my recent paintings.  The first is of a local lock keepers cottage in Ware, Herts.  The other two have been inspired by pictures I have seen, the first from a newspaper and the second from a photo magazine.  All three are comparatively small -10x7 inches.

Lake Windermere

It's been awhile since my last post! But that's not to say I haven't been busy painting though.
Back on landscapes at the moment. Here's my most recent watercolour of Lake Windermere. I Couldn't resist including a boat.

Lone Fisherman

Just a quick watercolour, not many colours used but a picturesque scene. Done with Derwent Artbars.

Suffolk Beach Huts

With the recent warm sunny weather it seems appropriate to include a painting of these Beach Huts on the Suffolk coast.

Sailing Home

Back to the good old Thames Barge. This ones racing home up the Blackwater Estuary.

Well that's it 3 watercolour paintings done- just need to frame! 

Norfolk Wherry

Back in the 1900s this Norfolk Wherry would have been a familiar sight on the Broads, sadly not many remain.

Sea's Edge - Portland Bill

This is my latest painting of Portland Bill, not far from where the Olympic sailing was held last year. The inspiration was taken from a French marketplace that were selling some similar paintings.

Fairfield Church Romney Marsh

Fairfield Church is located in a remote area on Romney Marsh where sheep roam free. Not far from here is a small scale steam railway which runs along the coast for about 13 miles- well worth a visit. 

Walsingham Abbey

Been busy painting a few scenes, this one is Walsingham Abbey in Norfolk. Time has taken its toll and there is not much left of the actual Abbey. The the garden is well kept, and is a quiet retreat which provides many paintable / photographic subjects. 

Castle Hedingham

Just done this very local scene of Castle Hedingham, used a combination of watercolour,paints,pencils and artsbars,which have created a nice range of tones. Please check out my gallery for a range of my other paintings.

Abandoned Dungeness Boat

Done using Derwent ArtBars picked up at the NEC yesterday; this one is an abandoned Dungeness Boat.

Tower Bridge

Been thinking about a Tower Bridge picture for sometime. The watercolour sketch below is a rough idea for a more detailed painting that gives the impression of a misty morning on the Thames.

Buttermere Lake

A quick watercolour pencil sketch of Buttermere Lake. I don't know what it is about boats, but whatever the type they help make a tranquil picture!

Finished for the Day

Watercolour (10x4.5") I wanted a change from standard blue skies and thought a sunset picture would be nice.

St Michael's Mount (12x9)

Keeping with the Cornish theme, this one's St Michaels Mount. I have had a couple of goes at painting this before, always including the causeway as it makes a great lead in to the picture. It's a popular place to go, but beware the tide comes in quickly covering the causeway!!

Cornish Mine (10x7)

This mine on a cliff near St Agnes creates an atmospheric picture. The gorse and the heather provide a bit of foreground interest.

Cley Mill, Norfolk

Norfolk is one of my favourite places to visit, particularly North Norfolk

Portland Bill Lighthouse

Portland is a fantastic place and I have been there a couple of times now. Plenty of masking fluid is used in the sea on this one!
